Ubuntu 9.04 – What’s new?
According to Canonical, ubuntu 9.04 (also known as Jaunty Jackalope) boots even faster than before, in some cases – taking less than 25 seconds! They have also made it more “visually appealing.” Ubuntu has long been known for its impressive visuals. Those using the 9.04 beta have reported a smother, more polished UI.
In addition, Canonical claim the new OS has improved wifi and 3G support; as well as improved suspend/resume features, to increase battery life. The download also comes with the latest version of OpenOffice, the very popular open source alternative to Microsoft Office. OpenOffice provides a free, full suite of office programs, and now offers great Microsoft Office compatibility. In fact, this post has been written using it!
