UK government to monitor social media websites

The BBC news has reported this morning, that the UK government is to monitor “social media” websites, including the likes of FaceBook, MySpace and Bebo.

The UK government had already come under fire from civil liberties groups, after plans to store all emails, phone calls and websites visited on a central government database.

The Home Office claims the new database is necessary to allow police and security services “keep up with technological advances.”

Are they perverts, or mad, or what? How many people are they going to employ to sneak reads of our messages to prevent this crime and terrorism? I think it’s ultimately a way of trying to keep democratic protest ineffective, and will lead to riots in the streets. Fools.
