Internet Explorer’s grip on the browser market is slipping, with a significant drop of 7% market share in the past year; according to figures released by Internet metrics provider, Net Applications.
It seems FireFox has grabbed the lion’s share of users from Microsoft’s browser, with a gain of 3% to 21.5%.
Safari has also gained on Internet Explorer, with a 1% increase (to 8.3%).
Google’s new addition to the ‘browser wars’ has just over 1% of the market, with Opera’s share dropping to .7%.

Minor correction, if you’re basing off a year, than Safari has gained about 2.5% not 1%
Yay for Mozilla, i’d like to see IE completely phase out, but i’m afraid they’ll start gaining again with the release of Win 7 and IE 8.. too many people are already praising features in IE8, even though those features have existed in Firefox for years.. Bleh.. what can you do.?!
Clay,
I think Safari growth will remain roughly in line with the growth of Mac’s. It’s not compelling enough to grab PC market share from FF, IE or Chrome.
If Chrome came with the add-ons I need, it would already be my primary browser, over FF.
Thanks for the comment
Yeah i agree with you that Safari is pretty much directly related with Mac users (if not infact lower, i know many Mac users that rarely touch Safari, myself included), and i think if Google ever releases a version of Chrome that allows extensibility as well as a Mac version.. it will definitely take more share.. whether it will be from IE of FF is debatable.
