UPDATE:
Please read this – why Windows 7 should have been FREE for every Vista user!
OK, up front I am NOT a Microsoft hater. I use XP on one of my PC’s and have a laptop that came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. Yes, I also use a MacBook Pro and have a Linux system – so I think I can make the next statement with a clear conscience. Here it goes.
Microsoft, please do ‘the right thing’ and give us Vista users a free or reduced upgrade route to Windows 7
Why am I asking this? OK, so Windows Vista is not quite as horrible as many people say. I am the first to admit it. A lot of the flack Vista got was uncalled for. However, a lot of the flack Vista got is totally valid and I believe Microsoft already know this.
By hawking Windows 7 to the media and public as a faster, less resource hungry and all round better OS – Microsoft are clearly going to lose a STACK of sales.
Why upgrade to Vista now; when Windows 7 seems to offer a better upgrade route from your XP system than Vista does?
Why buy Vista today, knowing Microsoft are themselves trying to get you to focus on the NEXT Windows OS?
Since bringing Windows Vista to market, Microsoft has not only received a stack of bad publicity – it has ALSO caused those who use Vista to suffer with a s-l-o-w-e-r system than we deserve. If you don’t believe me, stick a copy of XP on a machine running Vista and watch it fly! (Or stick a linux OS on it and watch it leave the fricking planet :) )
I believe Microsoft can turn some of the problems and bad publicity surrounding Vista into a plus – if they offer Vista users either a free upgrade to Windows 7 or at least a discount upgrade route.
Here’s where YOU come in.
Do you think there’s any reason for Microsoft to offer Vista users a less expensive Windows 7 upgrade route? Maybe you think they Vista users got what they deserved for not downgrading to XP or a Linux OS. Let us know what YOU think!

I agree. I hate Vista, and I didn’t choose it. I just had the bad luck to buy a Dell laptop in August. 2008. Vista sucks! I can’t believe the time it takes to cut and paste. Simple with every other OS (and Office). And IE is always quitting on me. I’m so frustrated with this OS. I might return to XP (the CD of which I own) if they won’t give Win7 to us for no charge!
get a BETTERm system,i have vista and NO problems AT all,if it takes you forever to cut and paste nething, then upgrading your os wont help, throwing yer paper weight out the window and getting a new pc on the other hand….
i also think windows 7 should be a free upgrade for vista users i also run xp and prefere to use it more than vista
Snap Deb, same laptop bought on same date with the same problem – Vista. I’ve been looking into Ubuntu Linux and if a better deal for Win7 doesn’t come along, that’s the way I’m going!
It would show great faith if MS gave Windows 7 to all of us that have HAD to struggle with VISTA. I’m sure many did not know about a ‘downgrade’ to XP even being available when they purchased a new computer that came with VISTA preloaded.
I stand with those that think Vista users should be given a free upgrade to Windows 7.
may have to go to Mac. They treat you fair
I am extremely frustrated with Microsoft! I bought a new computer with XP, a month later Vista came out decided after a year to buy Vista Ultimate (still get the odd blue screen of death!) and now one year later Windows 7. I think now I will wait for when my system becomes old, decrepid, out of date and go with an Apple Computer.
I firmly believe all Vista users should be given Windows 7 free, and Microsoft think of it as a major Service Pack Update! I have dealt with all Microsoft OS’s excluding ME and had enough….
Any business is obliged to fix a faulty product delivered to the customer.
…. except for the software industry it seems, with regard to windows.
Windows, these vista users payed for a catastrophic product so you should be happy they/we haven’t switched to mac yet and give them a free upgrade instead.
Don’t have customers pay for your mistakes!
i have two computers with vista and have been told there is software coming that will replace microsoft. if i do not get a free upgrade to windows 7 i will try them as anything would be better than vista
i totally agree and vista is forever updating and restarting
I bought my vista laptop the week before all this windows 7 came out i was a bit dissapointed because i never heard about it.
Vista came pre-installed for me too. I hate it. It’s more sensitive than my first girlfriend! In terms of its performance, its like a hybrid car manufacturer abandoning hybrid technology and returning to Mr. Ford’s first model T.
Yes, it really is that bad. All Vista users should get a free upgrade to Windows new OS, no question. I did not choose Vista. Microsoft threw it at me! Don’t you just love monopolies?
why should we put up with this, someone need to make a site and have url freevistatowindows.com or somthign and get people on there and have a bit for people to sign and get paper on it and rellly stick to mircosoft, also bill gate owens apple, so he make money offf pc and macs
Why not do that yourself Ash? I promise if you do, that I will link to it!
Its soo stupid they spent all that money hyping it up, as a differnt platform then turn around ans say hey we know this sucked so we made this better version and btw all you people with it are screwed. Its no wonder apple people are so elitiest.
Bad news: The “FREE” update is not free at all, but will cost me 30 EUR. The PC manufacturers charge us with misterious and ridiculous hidden fees. For example the HP will charge 30 EUR in Europe. This was not advertised of course, I have bought my PC two weeks before the release date. This 30EUR hidden fee turned out only when I have entered my PC’s serial number on the HP’s website. So they were apparently hiding the facts. If I have known that I would have postponed the purchase. I have contacted the consumer agency, seems to be difficult to prove that they not provided the information.
BUT WE HAVE AN ADVANTAGE. SHARE IT! It is not illegal cos we already entitled to use the Windows 7! Anyone who unfortunately ordered that already, please share it in order to fight back for them for this SCAM!
I got really screwed. I also had a pc with Windows ME, a few years later I buy Vista, Now I have 2 pc’s that have serious issues and Windows won’t even support ME….
i also think windows 7 should be a free upgrade for vista users
ok so they say you can upgrade but why cant we find the dame thing i realy dont like vista is sick but i am stake with if and there is nothing i can do but my mom laptop is only 4 months and a guy at walmart told us today that we can upgrade her laptop and i cant find it that not nice every one that is stake with this stupind vista should be giving windows 7 i think we didnt ask for vista it was in the new laptops or new computers so they shlod give it to us ok i know my spelling is not good but i tryed lol
I have windows XP on my desktop computer which gives no trouble. I recently bought a laptop with Vista which I find exasperating. I think an upgrade to windows 7 should be supplied free or alternatively a downgrade to XP. This should be designed to download automatically to avoid the frustration of fighting with complicated routines,
vista is too slow. though I have a ram of 1 gb, it dosent seem to work like that. vista was pre-installed in it. a free upgrade shd be given
I ALSO GOT MY NEW LAPTOP WITH VISTA PREINSTALLED ITS THE WORST SYSTEM I EVER USE. MICROSOFT SHOULD REALLY GIVE A FREE UP DATE TO ALL VISTA USERS THAT DID NOT REALLY GO OUT AND BUY IT.A FREE UPDATE SHOULD BE GIVEN ITS SO SLOW AND SENSATIVE. I ABSOLUTE HATE MY OPERATING SYSTEM
Me too! I would like to know if there is a way initiate a class action suite. This operating system along with it’s seven-page article that begins “This article contains information to help you diagnose why Windows Vista or Windows Server 208 serice packs are not being offered to you through Windows Update.”
AND . . continues “Although this article contains several methods that you can try”(try?) “to resolve the problem, don’t be overwhelmed.” I am overwhelmed that they are telling me not to be overwhelmed!
Although t
MICROSOFT SHOULD GO TO HELL FOR MAKING WINDOWS VISTA AND NOT GIVING US A FREE UPGRADE TOO WINDOWS 7. AND COULDNT THEY COME UP WITH A BETTER NAME THEN 7? LOL THATS KINDA LAME.
I have struggled with
vista the whole time I have had it on my HP Pavillon desktop. Never know what new quirk will bubble up. Finally got SP 2 installed after having to download a patch from Msft (Downloading a patch to make a Msft download work?? Go figure.) Have not been able to create a restore point for months…something about insufficient space….hello, I have a 320 gig hard disk and a 1 terrabyte external drive that does not have sufficient space? Could ramble on forever about shortcomings of Vista. You would think that the powers that be at Msft would admit their error and do the right thing..by giving free access to their latest software by users who have endured Vista…..
I completely agree that Microsoft should AT LEAST give a reduced upgrade price to those of us who were unfortunate enough to purchase a computer that had Windows Vista installed on it. I purchased my computer in fall of 2008, and it is not fair that I should have to pay full price for an upgrade when, if I would have had my way, I would have been able to purchase a computer with XP to begin with. I am completely appalled by Microsoft and am thinking of switching to a MAC. Interestingly enough, the MAC commercials are pretty accurate!
i have 3 computers, i have vista, xp, and i also have a mac and mac is very user friendly and ill use my xp any day over vist. its to bad that its on my laptop. its to slow and freezes quit often.
I had to buy a laptop in a hurry in March 2008, so I went to a local Best Buy and bought a Sony VAIO. I wanted a machine with XP but NONE were availble in the store, so I was forced to get VISTA. I knew there were many complaints about VISTA, but I had no idea just how bad it really is. After suffering with this inferior OS all year, I think the very least Microsoft should do is give me a free upgrade to 7 to compensate for my misery. They need to do the right thing or expect to lose many long time Micrsoft users like me who will switch to Mac.
I bought a new lap top it had vista on it.After working with it awhile Im like the rest.I think MS need to turn around and pull there head out and see that vista was a quick flop and give vista users a free upgrade. My computer has 2gig of memory 250 of hard drive and a turtle could pass me up
I am also stuck with Vista because of DELL. The salesman at the time told me that Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft after Vista has been running for a few months. I was misled and I am stuck with an inefficient os. Dell or Microsoft should offer a free upgrade to Windows7 or at least at a minimal price.
Agree with all this. I bought Vista (£90) summer 2008 and had nothing but trouble with it. Then I find out Microsh*te are aware of the problems… and are working on a NEW operating system, rather than fixing Vista.
THEN I have to pay out another £90 just to upgrade from a OS that SHOULD have worked in the first place??!? Microsh*te are a bunch of thieving swine. VERY tempted to download a cracked version of Windows 7 as they don’t deserve another £90 of mine.
Those who bought a product (Vista) which was quite clearly NOT finished properly should get a FREE upgrade to Windows 7. We paid for faulty goods afterall!
Thank GOD I have a Mac too or I’d be jumping out the nearest window in frustration…..
Can we do anything about this? Seriously I am SICK TO DEATH of big corporations grabbing your money easily, and not giving a damn about those that have problems or – worse – lose productivity due to incompetently designed operating systems. Microsoft have quite clearly ‘crossed the line’ by releasing a faulty product, and fixed it be creating a NEW product which you HAVE TO PAY FOR!!! This is just wrong and makes my blood boil. Wouldn’t it be fab if a bunch of us DID decide to do something about this and get some kind of action against Microsoft about this. Those who purchased Vista SHOULD be eligable for a free upgrade – Win7 is really just a fixed version of Vista anyways. Anyone have contacts in the media to get the ball rolling?
