20 minutes ago I blogged about the rumours surrounding a new Google browser! Well, I just heard from Matt Cutts of Google, that Google are to launch a beta version of their own Internet browser, Google Chrome, in 100 countries TOMORROW! Available NOW – Google Chrome link below!
UPDATE – You can download Google Chrome NOW
IT’S HERE: http://www.google.com/chrome
GOOGLE: “So why are we launching Google Chrome? Because we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web.“
First glimpse
The beta is initially only available for Windows based machines! However, Linux and Apple versions will come online soon (apparently.)
Google Chrome will launch with a few nifty tricks up it’s sleeve. Each tab you open will be in what they call a ‘virtual sandbox’ so that if something happens with another tab, the browser won’t crash!.
Mozilla?
I found this quote from the press release interesting:
“We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we’re committed to continuing on their path. We’ve used components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox, among others — and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.”

I’m looking forward to using it. Their online cartoon suggests that they’ve been working on it for a long time, which surprises me, although I’m not sure why!
The architecture etc looks extremely well thought out.
The only problem is for us web designers having to support yet another ‘standards’ browser!
Thanks for the comments!
Google can do whatever they like with Chrome – everyone will simply ensure their websites support it – just like they all design their websites to be GOOGLE optimized!
This is going to be BIG - I mean REALLY big!
