Leo Laporte: 2 websites hacked and $2,000 poorer!
It’s not a good time to be ‘thee tech guy!’ Leo has had 2 of his websites hacked and deleted ,within just a few days of being screwed out of two grand on eBay! Leo, who is well known for his shows with internet security guru Steve Gibson, deserves better than this!
Leo Laporte is a big, visible target. He makes stuff, making stuff is hard – really hard. Don’t break Leo’s stuff guys, c’mon – please! Personally, I think Leo needs to check the ip addresses of the guys at Zune, Vista and… well.. basically everyone at Microsoft. Microsoft is like kryptonite to Leo!
Consolation
As Patrick Norton said, it may be some comfort for Leo, regarding the two grand eBay loss, to know that eBay don’t give a shit.
The Tech News Blog loves Leo Laporte.
Bad dudes – Leave Leo alone!

Oh man
That sux. Leo – trace these bastard5 and name them!
Perhaps he should take some of his own advise .man this is not good for his reputation.
Hi Sheila,
Usually, that comment would have been blocked for your use of the word BASTARD – but that’s just what those people are!
Grant,
As far as I am aware, all of Leo’s sites were back up and running really quickly – he must have had a superb back-up plan in place. Sounds to me like he did take his own advice – and please, don’t take a cheap shot at Leo – we call them cheap shots because they are cheap – ya know?
Leo says eBay/Paypal gave him back his $2 grand. I’m sure he got some special treatment from them! Good going Leo!
No “special treatment ” its in the log amout of words and all that make up EB and PP’ Eule that if you can show you were hacked and or ripped off you can get your money back it just take time. If It happen faster for Leo its more to being more public than most of us and it was just better to get it to him faster then have him talk about it more.
Anyone knowing Leo and seeing him go spend 2K on ebay should know it wasn’t him. He isn’t made of it you know so he only spend what knows he has.
Tech guru or not Leo is not one to spend unwisely right now (in the past maybe)
I still would like more info on the hack and how they got in..I think something to do with Bluetooth my self.
